The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the joint that connects the lower jaw to the temporal bone of the skull. It is located in front of the ears on either side of the head. There are four different chewing muscles that enable you to chew, open and close your mouth, and move your jaw forward, backward, and side to side.
Temporomandibular (TMD) disorders occur due to problems with the jaw, jaw joint, nerves, and surrounding muscles. Pain can be severe and can be intermittent or constant. Symptoms include headaches, earaches, migraines, and jaw popping.
I’m Dr. Aziza Askari of Comfort Dental Spa in Farmington Hills, Mi, and I treat TMD. This condition may occur as a result of an injury, stress, heredity, tooth wear, teeth grinding, or tooth misalignment. If you suffer from TMD, I will assess the cause of your TMD.
Once I have diagnosed the cause, I will discuss with you ways to treat TMD. If you grind your teeth at night, I can fit you for a specially molded guard to stop the grinding. I can also change the shape of your teeth to re- align your bite.
If you are suffering from TMD, contact my Farmington Hills, Mi, dentist office at (248)474-6434 to schedule a consultation. I care for patients who reside in Farmington Hills, Livonia, and Novi. Don’t let your teeth cause you pain.
