Periodontal disease affects over 80 percent of adults in America. When left untreated, gum disease can lead to serious overall health problems, such as increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and Alzheimer’s. Dentists treat periodontal disease in various ways; surgically, non-surgically, and with lasers.

Comfort Dental Spa often treats gum disease with EZLASE lasers. Prior to lasers, periodontal treatment only managed the bacterial infection. However, when combined with micro-ultrasonic instruments, laser treatment eliminates infection.

Laser therapy reduces bacterial presence in gums, thereby decreasing inflammation. This therapy also stimulates the body’s natural healing process with its biostimulating effect.  During treatment, the tissues have time to heal and therefore can re-attach to the tooth and bring the periodontal pockets back to a near normal condition.

Periodontal disease, depending on the severity, can be treated through a series of one to four last dentistry sessions. The number of sessions will be determined at the initial consultation. Our laser-certified dental hygienists ascertain the number of sessions by the severity of the disease. Periodontal disease is measured by the number of bleeding areas around the gums and the depth of periodontal pockets. More severe cases require additional treatments.

If you suffer from red, swollen, bleeding gums, you may need periodontal laser treatment.
