National Children’s Dental Health Month

With National Children’s Dental Health month coming to a close, now is the perfect time to get the community thinking about the importance of dental health and quality dental care for growing and developing children. Although Comfort Dental Spa provides premier, high-end cosmetic and restorative dentistry to patients from across the greater Detroit area, we recognize that beautiful, fully functional smiles start with healthy smiles, and a dedication to oral health begins during childhood.

Healthy Smiles for Children at Home

The American Dental Association recommends that children visit the dentist for the first time by the age of one year, but dental health for children is greatly reliant on an at-home dental hygiene routine. To help your child adopt quality dental hygiene habits, try the following.

  • Help your child brush at least twice a day and floss once a day by leading by example. If your child sees you brushing, flossing, and having fun, he or she will follow suit.
  • Make teeth cleaning time a fun time by using tools to make dental health kid-friendly (like these from the ADA’s website) and rewarding good teeth brushing with a fun activity or non-sugary treat.
  • Don’t be afraid to help your child brush or floss if he or she doesn’t quite have the hang of it yet. It can be hard for little hands to thoroughly clean hard-to-reach places in the mouth, so step in to help them have the cleanest smile possible.
  • Consider having dental sealants placed and fluoride treatments administered once your child hits that stage in his or her development. Dental caries (cavities) is the most widespread childhood disease, and sealants, fluoride, good dental hygiene, and professional dental care all help protect your child’s smile.

To help your child achieve the healthiest smile possible and form dental habits that last a lifetime, take advantage of our promotion. To reserve an appointment or for more information, call Comfort Dental Spa, located in Farmington Hills, Michigan, at (248) 474-6434.
