SmilingWhen you have a variety of dental needs, we sometimes call the combination of procedures a “smile makeover.” Sometimes having so many dental needs can overwhelm a patient, but we can easily come up with a plan to rebuild your entire smile with both form and function in mind. Farmington Hills dentist, Dr. Aziza Askari will give you some sample scenarios for dental needs. Never fear if your exact situation doesn’t match. A plan can be designed just for you.

Cosmetic Dental Makeover Scenarios

Scenario #1: You have one missing tooth in the front and one in the back.  Your two front teeth present with a diastema (gap) between them, and they are discolored. Your teeth have not responded to whitening in the past.

Cosmetic Makeover Plan: If you were this patient, we could offer either dental bridges or dental implant retained dentures for the spaces where teeth were missing. Your gaps and discoloration could be fixed with dental bonding or porcelain veneers.

Scenario #2: Your back teeth are full of amalgam which is unsightly when you yawn or laugh. You also worry about the mercury from these metal fillings and crowns that you’ve had since you were a child. Additionally, your teeth are very stained and dull from years of coffee and tobacco use. You’ve quite smoking and would like to brighten up your smile.

Cosmetic Makeover Plan: Crowns and fillings made from metal can be replaced with composite-resin or porcelain so that they blend in with the rest of your teeth. After that, a nice in-office or at-home whitening treatment can brighten your smile multiple shades and take years off of your appearance.

Scenario #3: Your teeth are full of decay that has now caused them to start breaking and chipping. Your smile is embarrassing to you and is making you cover your mouth when you smile.

Cosmetic Makeover Plan: Smile makeovers won’t last as long if you don’t start with a healthy foundation.  Tooth decay must first be dealt with. Your Farmington Hills cosmetic dentist will do her best to keep as much of your natural teeth in tact as possible. After that, restorations of damaged teeth may include fillings, dental crowns, or bonding. Porcelain veneers may be recommended for severely damaged front teeth for the most esthetic result.
