ice cream floatLocated in Oakland County–west of Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair–Farmington, Michigan is a commuter city with a majority of its residents traveling in and out of Ann Arbor or Detroit for work. CNN/Money’s “Top 100 Places to live in 2007,” ranked Farmington number 55. It was also ranked 27th on the Best to Live list in 2013. Although a small town with a population of just over 10,000, Farmington is known for its historic downtown, and has been undergoing renovations and major improvements since 2009. The Governor Warner Mansion plays host to several events throughout the year including the upcoming Floats and Farmington History Porch Party.

The Governor Warner Mansion was built by Governor Warner’s father in 1867, and has since been turned into a museum. Positioned on nearly three acres of land and surrounded by beautiful gardens, it was built in the Victorian Italianate style and is furnished in the late Victorian style. The mansion plays host to a variety of activities year round for the public to enjoy, one of them being the Floats and Farmington History Porch Party this coming Thursday, August 13th. Have a grand time with other Farmington residents while enjoying a good-ole-fashioned ice cream float and listening to the Peace Jubilee Civil War band.

  • Petticoat Government Tea and Talk, August 23rd from 3–5pm: A luncheon and tea with the First Lady Edith Wilson played by Joan McGlincy.
  • Ghost Night at the Mansion, October 17th from 7–9:30pm: Part Victorian funeral, part haunted house, enjoy storytellers, palm readers, ghost watchers, cider, and donuts.
  • Christmas at the Mansion, December 5th from 5–7pm: Enjoy the elegantly decked-out halls of Warner Mansion, a visit from Santa, caroling, cookies, and hot chocolate.
